Teaching Philosophy

Playing piano is a joyous art that can be experienced by people of all ages, skills, and abilities. That is why I offer piano lessons to students of various ages. Since each student is unique, I strive to meet them where they are musically and take them to where they aspire to be. I achieve these results with my students by being organized in my teaching and invested in their lives beyond the piano studio. |

Because lessons seek to fulfill each students’ personal goals, selecting curriculum and repertoire is a joint effort between me and my students. I achieve this balance by allowing my students to choose material that is appealing to them, but also covers concepts I desire for them to learn.
Piano is an art that takes time to refine through careful, consistent practice. Though expectations for practice are determined based on a student’s age, it is highly important that these expectations are satisfactorily met by each lesson. Failure to meet these expectations could result in the student being asked to forfeit his/her lesson time. Additionally, parents of younger students are strongly encouraged to attend lessons to ensure profitable practice occurs at home.
While I as a piano teacher strive to be knowledgeable and professional, I also strive to be active in my students’ lives outside the studio. Each student has their own set of musical and personal strengths and weaknesses. It is my job as the teacher to recognize these qualities and help guide the student to become the best possible pianist and person he/she can be.
